Beckett almost got the Clement treatment last night

I still remember watching Matt Clement nearly get his head taken off back in '05 in Tampa Bay and he was never the same after that. So when Dejesus nearly be-headed Beckett last night I nearly needed a mid-game pants change. It could have been really ugly. Guy signs a new contract, comes out for the first game and takes a shot to the head that could have had all us talking about how Josh Beckett and baseball aren't important anymore, but we just hope he's ok and can eat his own Cheerios in the morning. Thankfully for all parties involved that wasn't the case and now we can associate Beckett with things like hazing rookies by marinating their jock straps in Stubbs BBQ sauce and bringing in his pit bulls, and of course providing needed beat downs in the middle of a losing streak.

As for the Sox getting Greinked, well that sure as hell wasn't the case. There probably won't be many games in which Jeremy Hermedia and Jason Varitek go back-to-back off the reigning Cy Young winner, so yesterday was a treat in many ways. A treat, that's right, it's an early Sunday morning and that's what you get. A treat.

The magic, she is a gone

Well, all things in life aren't bad. Always Sunny made its season debut last night and judging by talking to all my friends, or just seeing their status thing-ees on Facebook, just about everyone in the world was watching. It was actually timed perfectly because right after the Sox lost you had just enough time to wrap your head around Youk being left in the on deck circle last night and trying to find Tek a bigger glove so you could tune right in to Sunny without missing a beat.

The Sox would have had to go on a Colorado-esque 2007 streak to finish the season to catch the Yanks this year, and even though I knew it was the pipiest of pipe dreams, somewhere in the back of my mind the thought still lingered for some unknown asking-for-punishment reason. Now it's gone. That's ok though, because the next 7 games are against Baltimore and Kansas City. That's 7 games that should let the boys build up plenty of steam before rolling into da Bronx and trying to keep the Yanks from winning number 100 against the boys. Right now, that should be the mission. Don't give the Yanks win #100. When you can't win, bring down everyone else around you.

THEIF, THEIF!!!

Every friggin' second you turned around last night the rangers were running on 'Tek like a fat kid chasing a cheese burger. 8 stolen bases. What the f*ck? Half the time it seemed like 'Tek didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of even getting the umpire to bother signaling that the guy was safe his throws were so far behind. To get an idea of how much the Rangers ran last night, besides Kinsler's 2nd inning bridge shot, the Rangers had only one extra base hit the whole night. Single, steal second, advance to 3rd, get him home. The Sox got small balled to death last night and they had no answer for it. Positives of the night? V-mart and Jay Bay kept smashing the ball, but solo shots don't do much with no one on base. Tough one to watch for sure.

It's a lot to ask of Junky to step up today and get out of Texas with a series win, but that is what is asked of him today. My guess, V-mart is behind the plate today so there isn't another marathon on the bases. My other guess is that Drew is out... again and there's a right fielder that very few of us have heard of or care to have in the lineup.
